PROGRAM NOTICE : Part two of the One Day At A Time three-parter will be aired following this rare quickie quota from 1934, that concerns a young lass who watches her parents marriage slowly but surely crumble, at the time of its release it was hooted and hollered about, and though it was made to appease the Cinematograph Act it doesn't lack any of the gravitas of the other eminent releases of its day.

The Honeymooners
Hard to believe there were only thirty-nine episodes of this 11 o'clock number that was literally played at 11 o'clock for years on channel 11 in syndication, Orson Welles donned him the Great One and Gleason never shirked on his title with a little help from some talented friends, of the Audrey Meadows, Art Carney and Joyce Randolph variety. Gleason like Arbuckle were men of considerable girth who had grace and the ability to be light on their feet. Ahead of its time then and never wears out now. Interestingly the one to found the role of Alice Kramden was none other than my own spirit animal, Elaine Stritch.

Them Hollywood hicks that went rags to riches is as classic as classic television gets, Irene Ryan may have been lilliputian in stature but she was a giant in the theater and brought down the house in the original run of Stephen Schwartz's Pippin until her untimely demise. From the seventh season (there were 9 in all) I air this episode titled Collard Greens and Fatback, which originally aired on March 26,1969 on the CBS station.

Dobie Gillis
The original milquetoast and his many loves, and was he ever persnickety or then again not really as told in his theme song. This Max Schulman number was the heppest ever thanks to a certain pre-Gilligan Bob Denver, he was sad when they like 86th this show, a sweet slice of Americana, dig?
Dobie, wants a little cutie,
Dobie, wants a little beauty,
Dobie want a gal to call his own
Any size, any style, any eyes, any smile, any Jean, any Jane, nay Joan.
Oh Dobie, wants a girl who is dreamy,
Dobie, wants a girl who's creamy,
Dobie, wants a girl to call his own.
Is she blond, is she tall, is she dark, is she small, Is she any kinda dreamboat at all
No matter, he's hers and hers alone.

Carla Lane had an affinity for writing shows that would be up your street. A nice scouser girl who's series were oft set in the Merseyside way. And here is Bread, it did the seven-series shuffle and features a stellar ensemble. It originally aired in the year 1986 and had its closing season in 1991

its bloody Not On Your Nellie

Get Some In! was a five-season number and a love song to the earlier socksknocker - Dad's Army, it's run was betwixt 1975 and 1978.Robert Lindsay is one of the brood in this inspired Thames affair.

The veritable institution called Bud and Lou take to the little screens in their fifty-episode adventure with a destination to many a living room between the years 1952 and 1954 proving they didn't need the big silvers to keep the knees a'slappin.

We Still Steal The Old Way (this century, honest)
The Archer ones like the prodigal ones returneth and I isn't talking about the town of Ambridge, you get some pretty nasty work pieces here and why doesn't Winstone turn up here eh? Danny Dyer's daughter that shares a first namesake too is in this and no surprise because her daddy knew the producers innit, got nothing but love for the Queen Vic guv. And incidentally Billy Murray who was a proper boss Johnny Allen from 2006 Eastenders past stars. Sacha Bennett helms this gripping take no prisoners or mugs for that matter prison flick.

From Barker to Baker, he had the general store, and she sold pickles on the sea shore and that music hall gem - Jimmy Jewel, what could be more delicious a duo. Nearest and Dearest - This Granada series strutted its stuff from 1968 - 1973.
